Retrieve CAS Registry Numbers

Retrieve the CAS Registry Numbers® associated with BLAST® sequences in order to use STN® command language to search and display references for those sequences.

Before you begin: Transfer the CAS Registry Numbers from your BLAST results to an STN on the Web session.

To retrieve RN numbers from your most recent BLAST search:

  1. Return to your STN on the Web session.

Time outs: If your online session has timed out, log in again.

  2. From the session page toolbar, select Search Assistants > Sequence Assistant.

  3. From the Sequence Search Assistant page, select Retrieve RNs from BLAST.

The Sequence Assistant automatically "packages" the sequences in multiple sets of L- numbered queries and places you in the STN Registry file.

  4. Conduct online searches on STN with the final L-number query generated by the transfer from BLAST.

Example: To retrieve references for the transferred sequences, search the L-number created by the Registry file search in bibliographic files such as CAplusSM.
